Confidentiality Policy

Confidential information relating to the Carer is collected as part of the Respite Support Service. Coordinators acquire considerable amounts of information pertaining to the  Carers’ and care recipients’ health, family situation, social relationships, personal interests, skills and behaviour patterns. Confidentiality relates specifically to the protection of this private information concerning Carer and the care recipients.

Any information regarding the Carer or care recipient is not released to a third party unless it is with the consent of the Carer.  Any information that is released is to those who have a legitimate interest, need the information in order to care for the care recipient and/or have a legal need for such information. 

Due to the nature of Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre Mid North Coast service, that is organising immediate and emergency respite, verbal consent will be obtained from the Carer to enable the respite service to occur. Following this, every attempt will be made to obtain written consent from both the Carer and care recipient.

Confidentiality will be maintained at all times by staff at Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre Mid North Coast except in the following circumstances:

  • The service has a legal obligation to reveal information.
  • Staff members suspect that an individual is in danger of harming themselves.
  • Staff members suspect that there might be harm to another person.
  • Staff members are informed of a criminal act.
